SAIL AWAY! An introduction to the Hudson River
A Workshop In Civic Engagement

In partnership with Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, this 2 ½ hour sail will examine the river and its relationship to the major metropolitan areas of New York and New Jersey. We will see how the cities’ governments and public sectors interact with the challenges and opportunities the magnificent Hudson has to offer.

On the deck of a traditional sailing ship, students will learn about the river’s natural wonders and cultural significance. This introduction can forge a lifetime connection with our river and harbor. Students will have the opportunity to use their bodies and brains together to lift the sails, steer the ship, examine live fish, perform water-quality tests, discover Hudson River history and learn how to take action as a member of civil society.
